Sunrise Supported Living Tuncurry and BaptistCare announce they have entered into an agreement to transfer the operations of Sunrise Supported Living Tuncurry retirement village and its associated home care service, Sunrise Home Care, in the Mid North Coast region to BaptistCare, one of Australia’s leading not-for-profit aged care and community services providers.
The agreement includes Sunrise Supported Living Tuncurry, comprising 106 independent living units, and Sunrise Home Care, which delivers home care services to 66 village residents and an additional 190 clients across the wider Mid North Coast region. The transition will see approximately 90 Sunrise employees offered employment with BaptistCare, ensuring continuity of care and trusted relationships for residents and clients alike.
The transition, expected to be completed in October 2025, follows a considered and values-aligned process between the two organisations.
Paul Greenup, Director of Sunrise, said the decision was made with great care and with residents, clients and staff at the heart of the process.
“We undertook a thorough assessment to ensure any future operator of Sunrise shared our values and commitment to care. BaptistCare’s long-standing reputation and strong local presence gave us great confidence. Their experience and values make them an ideal fit to carry Sunrise’s legacy forward.”
BaptistCare is a leading not-for-profit, Christian-based care organisation that has been serving older Australians and people experiencing disadvantage since 1944 in NSW, ACT and WA.
In 2025, BaptistCare joined with Baptcare (VIC, TAS, SA) and Baptist Care SA, forming a newly-merged national organisation with a shared mission to help people live well with dignity and purpose. BaptistCare currently supports over 38,000 people, employs 12,000 staff and works with 1,500 volunteers. BaptistCare’s services include residential aged care, BaptistCare at home, retirement living, in addition to community services, disability, mental health and youth and family support.
Charles Moore, CEO of BaptistCare, said the organisation is looking forward to welcoming Sunrise residents, clients and employees.
“We’re delighted to welcome Sunrise residents, clients and employees into the BaptistCare family. Sunrise has built a strong and trusted presence in the Mid North Coast community, and we’re proud to continue that legacy under the Sunrise name, now supported by the scale and stability of BaptistCare,” Mr Moore said.
“This partnership allows us to extend our commitment to personalised, values-driven care to even more people, building on our presence in the region through our Mid North Coast BaptistCare at home team, our social club Blue Gum Cottage in Taree and BaptistCare Kularoo, our residential aged care home in Forster.”
All Sunrise staff will be offered employment with BaptistCare to ensure continuity of care and relationships for clients and residents.
Residents, clients and employees will receive detailed information in the coming weeks, along with invitations to information sessions to support them throughout the transition.
